Ambition is vital for people who want to succeed. I am convinced that ambition is useful, although it can be counterproductive in some cases.

People with ambition tend to have a strong sense of conviction and a clear goal. That is to say, under the guidance of aspiration, the external temptation will not influence them. Instead, they will stick to their goals until they achieve success. Besides, when encounter challenges, ambitious people never hold back since they hate to lose. By contrast, an unambitious man is more likely to give up as they lack both the desire for success and a sense of purpose and faith. Moreover, fierce competitions are omnipresent in modern society, man without ambition is easy to lag behind their rivals. In fact, only ambitious people can adapt to modern society and live a successful life.

While on the other hand, ambition may have adverse impact in some circumstances. People who are too ambitious believe that if a goal is worthy, then any means taken to attain it is justifiable. For instance, the ambition for money and success might turn an innocent man into a violent robber or even a cold-blooded murderer. In this case, far from inspiring people to succeed, ambition pulled some people into the abyss doomed eternally.

To sum up, ambition is important for being successful but it’s also considered as a double-edged sword. Only if we harness it properly will this characteristic be positive as well as useful.
