The contention of whether public figures should express their political views has been a permanent topic. Some claim political opinions from celebrities are attractive and worth noting, while as far as I’m concerned, celebrities should not set foot in politics, and their views are mostly useless. My viewpoint is based on the fact that most of them are not familiar with politics, and the overwhelming influence they have that is otherwise dangerous to society.

To begin with, public figures would most likely mislead the public given their enormous social impact. Society needs to build up an atmosphere that encourages critical thinking, which is the foundation of a society to advance and dispel extreme ideologies. But celebrities can easily spoil that atmosphere since their voice can be dispersed by the internet and reach millions throughout the world within seconds. The odds are that a certain amount of their fervent fans will follow blindly their opinions and even attack those who oppose their ideas even if they are wrong. In that case, rational thoughts can be blocked out of public vision and taken over by immature personal thinking. With the only voice from celebrities left, the fans will presumably translate it into something else and thus wind up endangering the public.

In addition, most celebrities are not that judicious, and learning their opinions could be a waste of time. It’s true that society craves a diversity of thoughts, including political opinions, but it is equally true that we want to discuss and learn opinions targeted at pressing issues that indeed take root in society and desperately need solutions. But most of the public figures are limited to fields they are good at, not politics. They are not professional politicians, nor have the time and energy to polish their thoughts, which will most likely be thrown onto the internet casually instead. Taking the fact that they are immature in terms of politics into account, public figures can hardly bring up any political opinion that is worth noting and learning.

In conclusion, my preference for the standpoint that political views from celebrities are useless and should be avoided is justified through the above-mentioned reasons and examples.
