It might be true that in most situations, progress requires discussion among people who have contrasting points of view, but I believe sometimes it may slow down  progress.

First of all, people usually do not know things comprehensively. The information we get is usually only part of the truth. Therefore, people make wrong decisions. However, if there is someone who is able to point out the problem with objective perspectives, it will be helpful to get things done. Let’s take sports game as an example, in a baseball game, there will be main judge who stand behind the player, and also there are other judges stand at every bases. When main judge has missed some important information, the judge would ask other judges to gather their ideas or points of view, to revise his judgement. Nowadays, the judge even use high-end camera to support some angle of views for supporting judgement. Therefore, it is important to have someone who can disscuss, or with contrasting points of view to get things done.

We can also see a lot of successful busniessman who has contrasting points of view with most of people. Whenever a break-through is created in the world, it usually requires someone who willing to risk for it. Take Elon Musk as example, before TESLA, there is only few of companies were willing to bet on electric motor. But Elon Musk had contrasting opinion with people, so he put in his money to build a company for making electric car. Despite he was facing a lot of challenges and dobuts by people and investors, his company is now worth billions of dollars. To have contrasting point of view may be risky, however, it might be a potential opportunity that no one ever find it before.

On the other hand, for some areas might work smoothly without any contrasting points of view, such as gorvernment. Due to Covid-19, many countries are facing challenges to defence from this deadly flu. The gorvernments need to make policy for protecting their citizens as soon as possible. However, some people are not willing to follow the policy the governments had made, so they missed the chance to stop this virus in the early stage. Therefore, I believe that in some urgent cases, we need to move fast insdead of satisfying everyone.

Therefore, I believe that in most scenarios might be good to have contrasting points of view, but some times do not necessarily need the contrasting point of view.
