Lately, I’ve heard an argument on whether teachers were more appreciated and valued in the past than they are nowadays. Some believe that now we have much more access to education, so people are  more respectful to teachers. However, I think that teachers were more appreciated in the past.
To begin with, teachers are more cherished by people in the past. We all heard about women being restricted to go to school long time ago, not only in the western world, like Europe’s art school, but also in the eastern world, like the Chinese Shuzhai. Take ancient China as an example, most students that had the chance to go to Shuzhai are boys. What’s more, they must be some lords’ or influential merchants’ kids. Therefore, teachers’ social status was surely high and much respected. They are the most important part of the Shuzhai, and the only way an ordinary family’s child could be rich or be a lord is to study in the Shuzhai and try to stand out from the Kejv test.
Besides, nowadays teachers are easier to become. As society develops, our lives become more peaceful and rich, we have much more chances to get educated as well. In recent years, one could be another’s teacher even he or she only gets an education from junior high school, which is just so easier than in the past. Education equality is enjoyed by most, but the quality of education is getting worse. Someone can become a teacher just for his or her diploma, not their real capability and knowledge. The teaching method is well-adjusted and the textbook is modified by the country so that anyone can understand it and become a teacher. The teacher is not a respectful career anymore, in most cases.
