It is clear that the same products are now available nearly all over the world. People seem to share an increasingly similar life with these products. For me, the phenomenon is beneficial to some extent, but brings some detrimental impacts meanwhile.

The same products are so prevalent worldwide because of certain reasons. First, they are normally of good quality and affordable prices. The manufacturers of these goods are equipped with cutting-edge technology and professional knowledge, which ensures their products’ quality and affordability. They also challenge the dominance of the local producers, thereby lowering prices and benefiting local customers. Besides, the practice of using the same products promotes mutual understanding and trust. For example, iPhone users would share similar concepts and ideas with other users by using the same system and apps.

Identical products, however, can have harmful effects as well. For one thing, a country’s history, language and echos are bound up with its manufactured artefacts. With the relentless advance of world brands into every corner of the world, these bland packages might replace the traditional objects in one nation, which is a loss of richness and diversity of cultures. For another, traditional products, whether these be clothes, utensils, or medicines, provide employment for local people. The fact that people turn to multinational products due to their glamorous character puts craftsmen out of work.

Therefore, people can enjoy the benefits of cheap and advanced products as well as have a deep understanding of each other with the spread of multinational products, but countries also need to pay attention to the protection and revival of their traditional products because of their unique value for cultures and employment.

Convenience foods are accepted by a growing number of people and some people believe that convenience foods tend to be more popular, finally replacing traditional foods. As for me, the sales of convenience food is bound to increase, but it is of little possibility that traditional foods would totally disappear.

There are two main reasons why ready-made food enjoys growing popularity. First, the fast pace of modern life forces citizens to spend much less time in food preparation. With the short time needed for cooking, convenience food would be more preferable. Besides, the price of these foods has dropped considerably combined with more varieties to choose due to the rapid development of technology. More people can find food suiting their taste with reasonable prices.

Meantime, traditional foods can also maintain its existence in the future. As is known, traditional foods are always much healthier than fast foods with more nutrition and better taste. People have become more concerned about health, so they would still select foods cooked in traditional ways. In addition, traditional foods are an important part of the local culture, such as dumplings in China as well as roast beef and potatoes in England. That is to say, in order to protect and promote their cultures, people in different areas will prepare local foods and teach preparation methods to their offspring continuously.

In a word, people may choose convenience foods more frequently, but traditional foods are unlikely to disappear for their healthy property and being a symbol of the local culture.

The alarming rate of species loss has caught people’s attention. Some argue that extinction of species is the top problem requiring solving, while others believe there are other problems in need of instant action as well. I think protecting biodiversity is part of our to-do-list as many other actions of environmental protection.

There is no doubt that preserving as many as species is of great importance. Clearly, the more different animals and plants there are in one area, the stabler the ecosystem will be. In contrast, if some core species disappeared, the local ecosystem would collapse, which would be a great loss to humans. That is why people take various measures to protect endangered species from creating more nature reserves as well as specialist plant and animal facilities to imposing strict laws against the illegal trade in wildlife products.

Emphasizing the importance of maintaining biodiversity does not mean other environmental problems should be neglected. To be specific, water and air pollution are posing a serious threat to the health of all living creatures. Another example is global warming which has caused polar ice caps to melt and sea levels to rise. The result is the loss of homes at low land levels. If the greenhouse gas emissions could not be reduced, there would be no hope for the future.

In sum, it is clear that we should make an effort to protect species in danger by establishing man-made habitats or combating poaching. More importantly, we need to take other problems into account as well because a balanced and sustainable environment cannot exist with only animals and plants.

Environmental degradation has posed a serious threat to our survival. Therefore it is imperative to overcome this challenge in the 21st century. To achieve this goal, countries should join forces, instead of working individually for their own targets.

There are two reasons why people support international cooperation. On one hand, the impact of environmental problems is normally on a global scale. Clearly, we share the same biosphere, whose components are interrelated. For example, if a river in a country were polluted by the sewage dumped by its neighboring country, the effort of one country would be futile without the involvement of its neighbor. On the other hand, some countries have realized the importance of environmental protection, but do not have adequate resources, such as capital and technology. Under this circumstance, these countries can seek to cooperate with developed countries by introducing technologies and drawing on their experience.

Despite the importance of international cooperation, individual countries should take the initiative to implement some changes. Countries are usually confronted with different environmental problems. For example, greenhouse gas emissions in China are mainly created by electricity generation industry, while those are primarily attributed to the increase in automobiles in America. The technologies and methods that are applicable in China may not be effective in the USA.

In sum, countries ought to make a joint effort not only because the ecosystem is a unified mechanism but also because it can make optimal use of financial and human resources. In addition, countries’ resource commitment is also important at regional or national level.
