People choose a leader to guide the nation toward prosperity. Some people claim that it is necessary for a leader to maintain the highest moral standard. In my perspective, the moral standard facilitates efficiency when a leader carries out the policy, yet there are other dimensions to judge the effectiveness of a leader.

Most citizens readily connect the leadership with leader’s moral standard. To be more specific, the masses will trust the leader with a high moral standard, support his/her policies and devote themselves to implementing these decisions. On the contrary, a leader would lose public trusts and end up in failure if he/she chooses to ignore corruption or hold back the information related to the interests of people.

However, it is imprudent to equate the effectiveness of the highest ethical standard. No one is perfect. A leader may have small shortcomings in morality, but people could brook it if the leader makes progress in well-being, environment, science, technology and art. If all citizens put much emphasis on the moral aspect, chances are that no leader can be suitable for the position.

Besides, the effectiveness of a leader lies in not only moral standard, but also other factors, including leadership, visionary, and cooperative spirit. The environmental pollution asks a leader to negotiate it with industries and scientists, to discover essential problems and to have a decisive mind to close the factories producing wastes. An excessive focus on moral standards makes no sense and even has an adverse effect.

In addition, we cannot judge a leader’s morality in the same standard with other citizens. When it comes to the nation’s secret and social stability, a leader choosing to hold the truth should deserve people’s applause rather than criticism. The misuse of these truths by terrorists could pose a threat to the nation.

To sum up, people welcome a leader with the highest moral standard, but there are other factors conducive to the effectiveness of a leader.

People choose a leader to guide the nation toward prosperity. Therefore, the leader’s moral standard plays an important role in people’s mind. Some people claim that it is necessary for a leader to maintain the highest moral standard. In my perspective, the moral standard facilitates the efficiency when a leader carries out the policy, yet there are other dimensions to judge the effectiveness of a leader.

It is acknowledged that people are inclined to connect the leadership with the leader’s moral standard. A leader with high moral standard can win people’s support and the justice of his/her decisions has a larger chance to be accepted by the majority. On the contrary, a leader would lose public trust if he/she chooses to ignore corruption.

However, it is imprudent to equate the effectiveness to the highest ethical standard. No one is perfect. A leader may have small shortcomings in morality, but people could brook it if the leader can benefit the society and make progress in well-being, environment, science, technology and art. If all citizens put much emphasis on the moral aspect, chances are that no leader can be suitable for the position. Can we weigh F.D.Roosevelt’s trivial errors over his actions in American Depression and World War II? There is no doubt that his achievements have more profound influence to United States. Besides, the effectiveness of a leader lies in not only moral standard, but also other factors, including leadership, visionary, and cooperative spirit. The environmental pollution asks a leader to negotiate it with industries and scientists, to discover the critical problems underlying the facts and have a decisive mind to implement measures to close factories producing wastes. Over focus on moral standards makes no sense and even has adverse effect.

Besides, we cannot judge a leader’s moral standard in the same framework of other citizens. When it comes to the nation’s secret and social stability, a leader who chooses to hold the truth cannot be blamed. These truths, if open to the public, may be exploited by terrorists, posing a threat to the nation. An effective leader depends on many factors besides moral standard to be qualified to guide a nation. Only with these excellent qualities can a leader make contributions to the people and society.

The moral standard of a leader, an essential aspect for the prosperity of a nation, has been discussed and even triggers a heated debate over whether it is necessary for a leader to reserve the highest ethical and moral standards to be effective in his/her tenure. Some people claim that it is necessary. Contrary to these people’s view is my perspective that the moral standard facilitates the efficiency when a leader carries out the policy, yet there are other dimensions to judge the effectiveness of a leader.

It is acknowledged that people are inclined to connect the leadership with the leader’s moral standard. We all take the fact for granted that an honest, frugal, sympathy leader will perform well, increase the welfare of people and guide society to prosperity. For example, the leaders during the Anti-Japanese war in China, who were all so kind and warm-hearted to share their food with subordinates in such material deficiency situation, won people’s support most and inspired more people to join army to defend for the integrity of China. Hardly can we imagine that an spendthrift leader during that time would win people’s support, implement policy effectively and save people from suffering.

However, it is imprudent to equate the effectiveness to the highest ethical standard. No one is perfect. A leader may have trivial shortcomings in morality, but people could brook it if the leader has what it needs to benefit the society and make progress in well-being, environment, science, technology and art. Whether the leader is knowledgeable in politics, laws, economy and international relationship and has decisive judgement matters more regarding the effectiveness. If all citizens put much emphasis on the moral aspect, chances are that no leader can be suitable for the position. Can we weigh F.D.Roosevelt’s trivial errors over his actions in American Depression and World War II? There is no doubt that his achievements have more profound influence to United Ststes compared with the errors.

An effective leader depends on many factors besides moral standard to be qualified to guide a nation. Only by these factors in leadership can a leader make contributions to people and society.
