All university students should be required to take history courses no matter what their field of the study is. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

Career-wise, schools bolster students to equip themselves with the know-how and analytical skills needed on the front lines to move up the corporate ladder. For the mentioned reason, universities come up with a solution of taking more useful and practical courses, history is one of them. While there are different opinions when it comes to whether all of students in the university should take history courses compulsorily, I am definitely a proponent of taking the courses no matter what field they are in.

A famous saying stemming from Bacon, that history make man wise. History affords us lessons that merit attention.  For example, in late Qing Dynasty, the feudal rulers adopted a policy of seclusion, which hampered China’s progress. While after China carried out reform and open policy, the economy has thrived. Comparing those two completely different policy, we can decidedly conclude that the country’s development is largely subjective to the country’s foreign policy. From this example, we can see the obvious advantage to take history courses, for is can make students wiser by obtaining experiment from the past.

Moreover, different disciplines are not exclusively independent. What we learned in history course, let’s say, critical thinking method, can be catholic. In history courses, you learn how to view things in divergent sides, and similarly, you can also exert this thinking and analysis method in what you are majoring.  It’s can definitely enhance your ability and improve your practice.

Admittedly, time-wise, it comes at a huge cost when learning one more course except your major. For students who have already suffered from lots of pressure have to squeeze time to learn history courses it will be demanding. However, everyone who want to be successful is doomed to work hard. No one can easily make a great progress unless he or she take pains to study hard. So, I reckon that it’s necessary for students to take history courses. It apparently has profound benefit.
