Nowadays, white lies are prevailing. people argue that telling lies can also serve the good purposes and telling the cruel truth sometimes is not kindness. However, in my opinion, no matter where we are stuck and what we are confronted with, telling the truth is always the best policy, not only to people around, but also themselves.

Primarily, telling the truth show respect to others, however cool the truth is. Sometimes people cheat someone they love, in a bid to cover up the misfortune. However, the ‘victims’ have to face the reality and know the truth one day and they will never be grateful to the one who keep away the truth from them. They may feel betrayed and distressed. Especially in Chinese families, it’s not uncommon to see that some family members tell the lies that the old parents will recover soon and everything is ok but the fact is that the old are really sick and nothing can pull him away from the death. Under this circumstances, the sick man feels distressed that he has no time left to finish his wildest dreams, accompanied with regret, and even disappointment to his ‘kind’ and warm-hearted sons. From my perspective, covering up the truth implies that someone should have known it has no chance to accept it, let alone decide upon it.

But the most important thing is that telling the truth is the best gift to themselves. Inner peace and comfort fade away unconsciously. The truth is that no one is ready to be sincere and true to themselves. When they kick the facts away, they also kill the true self. When thieves steal things, they may feel upset and panic, which originates from the betrayal to themselves.
