In today’s society, it’s no doubt that people are living under high pressure and are busy meeting a large quantity of deadlines. Talking about the point that people do very few things well because of they are busy doing a number of distinct things, I totally agree. There are two main reasons.
First, less time will be spent on a specific thing if people have a large number of different things to do. If a person needs to finish many tasks in limited time, he or she will greatly value the speed of finishing a task rather than whether he or she does it well. Thus it leads to the bad outcome that lots of things have been done, but seldom did they come up to people’s expectation.

On the contrary, if people are not that busy, they could spend more time doing one thing better, which means they will be more patient and careful. For example, Tom, a freshman majoring in math in an university, told me that he chose to quit his part-time job and a literature club to prepare for the coming final exams. After making this careful choice, he spent more time on schoolwork and made adequate preparations. Finally, he got high scores in the final exams and felt satisfied.

The other reason is that doing a variety of things will reduce efficiency. To finish different tasks on time, people have to work around the clock and stay up late at night, which leads to poor performance the next day. Also, they need to face the harsh fact that their health conditions may be influenced by overload work. Under this circumstance, doing a variety of things will reduce working efficiency and hinder people’s future development.

Conclusively, as people are busy doing a large number of things, they can do few things well.
