All students chose a study field as their major after they enter university, they may be interested in certain research objects. Whether it’s necessary for students to have science lessons no matter what his or her major is has been a topic of public intere and concern. Some people consider it essential for students’ all-rounded development. Personally, I disagree with the idea that introducing fondamental science courses into college education.

First off, taking additional science classes takes up students free time. They may want to review the major knowledge they learned today or take a break from heavy study missions. According to a recent report, about 30% of students will go over their notes at the end of the day or on weekends. And over 40% students use their spare time for recreation. So if students are required to have science lessons that are not part of their training programs, their study may be negatively impacted and can’t have a high quality of rest.

Secondly, the university have to hire more faculty in order to garantee the quality of education. More investments can be a huge burden since the college fundings are limited and need to be allocated carefully. Take my school for example. Last year, the school decided to offer a course in psychology to all students no matter what their major is. We were so excited about it because psychology sounds so interesting, therefore, tons of students signed up for it. The Incident ended with the college giving the phychology teacher a lot of overtime pay because there are too many students taking it.

Admittedly, adding basic science courses to students’ training program do have some benifits. They can have a comprehensive perspective when they do their own filed of study. However, they can achieve the same goal by reading more books in their spare time. Thus, it is obvious that science classes is not the best approach to develop students’ study ability.

In conclusion, considering the negative impacts taking basic science courses no matter what their major is, I consider it unnecessary.
