The Internet and public transportation contribute greatly to our modern life. While the internet has enabled us to have high-volume communication in support of modern industry and enriches our life with ways of entertainment such as Netflix and online games, the public transportation system also plays a pivotal role in logistics and supporting our modern cities. Although different idea clash in the problem of whether the transportation system or internet deserves more attention and investments from governments, based on different people’s perceptions about how to make their cities and homes a better place, I think it is more important for the authority to push the progress of constructing public transportation.

Firstly, compared to the internet, the public transportation system is of essential use for people in the city to have enough supply for daily life. While cities are creating technological products and acting as economic powerhouses, materials that human beings need for daily survival need to be transported to grocery stores and supermarkets. With the exponential growth of urban areas, a substantial amount of roads, rails, and airports need to be constructed. In absence of enough roads, trucks cannot transport enough food and materials to cities and meet people’s demands.

Secondly, the construction of a transportation system requires a tremendous amount of finance and technological resources that no company or individual has. Therefore, only governments can invest and plan on these super projects.

I have to concede that communication is also of importance for people to communicate and collaborate from a far distance. However, companies are financially capable and willing to build internet infrastructures since fiber optics are a lot easier and cheaper to build than roads and rails that need millions of tons of concrete and steel, as well as meticulous structural design. With the internet infrastructure, they can profit greatly from people’s service fee.

In the nutshell, in combination with the reasoning above, we can draw the conclusion that government should be more inclined to improve public transportation instead of the internet.
