In my point of view, governments should spend more money in support of athletics instead of the arts. This support can not only save more money from both citizens and governments, but also promote the citizens’ abilities to enjoy arts.

First of all, supporting more on athletics could actually save more money from both citizens and governments. This is because that if governments could build more and better facilities for the gym, such as cleaner swimming pools and bigger football playing fields, citizens would be willing to go out for exercise rather than stay at home. In such a case, citizens’ physical health could be improved. Thus fewer citizens need to go to the hospital, and governments could spend less money on medical support. My ground father gets used to fit himself every day, and go to the hospital very little, which not only makes him happy every day but also saves his money for the medical fee.

Second, supporting more on athletics could promote citizens’ abilities to enjoy arts in another way. The reason lies in that the healthy body is the prior condition of enjoying the arts. At the same time, modern citizens tend to stay at home to relax by watching TV or playing video games, and stay at offices to work in front of computer screens. Thus they usually lack enough exercise, leading themselves easily to be weak, and do not want to enjoy artworks. My cousin used to like painting when he was young, but one day he was ill and had to spend much time on curing himself, and therefore had no time to draw again. Even now, although he has been cured, since has not painted for a long time, he does not like painting anymore.

In conclusion, governments should spend more money in support of athletics than the arts. And this is due half to saving money from citizens and governments and half to promoting the citizens’ abilities to enjoy arts.
