Most students usually learn about history by memorizing lots of names, dates, events, and statistics from thick textbooks. The more they remember, the higher their score. It seems as if the task of historians is simply to gather up pieces of history, which is a misconception about the study of history so that students are often confused by the fact that historians have opposed views of the same event.
Generally speaking, history is defined as the human past, specifically, the past in which there are still records people left, the only means to infinitely approach history. Thus, searching for history is endless.
One of the reasons historians disagree is their selection of diverse facts about the same event. Since not everything in the past is fully documented, they have to pieces together collected information to recreate a relatively complete history.
Besides, they will start from different premises. As these facts do not have equal weight in their eyes, they will use them by considering if they are the key motivations of human behavior from different perspectives to create evidence.

More than this, another divergence is due to the account of various levels of causality. It will dig deeper and deeper if getting beyond the proximate cause. Of course, in the process they are constantly discovering new information and learning from each other to fiddle their ideas.
In summary, these disagreements are inevitable until our knowledge affords a valid mode perfectly explaining human behaviors. The probe for truth and history is fascinating but never-ending, and that is why it is such a valuable part of education.
