Increasing the price of petrol is the best way to solve growing traffic and pollution problems.

Many people are concerned about traffic congestion and pollution problems, for which they believe that increasing the price of petrol is the best solution. However, I don’t think it really prudent to look at these problems in such a superficial way.

Increasing price of petrol is undoubtedly going to help with the situation to some extent. Driving will become so costly as paying for petrol composes of a major proportion of expenditures. That is to say, driving to work or vacation will be less affordable and financially sustainable. More people will choose other alternatives so there will not be as many cars giving out pollution and making up traffic. As far as I am concerned, every time drivers go to the gas station, they always pay great attention to the prices.

However, whether making drivers to pay more is the best solution remains to be discussed. Firstly, billionaires and trillionaires consider petrol prices to be negligible, and they will undoubtedly continue to drive. In other words, petrol prices impose limited effect on them. Secondly, reducing cars can help deal with congestion, but not the same way with pollution. There are lots of scientific reports on pollution and cars only consist of a relatively small fraction among all the reasons. Last but not least, making eco-friendly bicycles available should be taken into consideration to make public transportation more popular, as they shorten the time needed for commuting from home to bus or subway stations.

Obviously, more things excluding controlling petrol prices could be done, when it comes to solving traffic problems and pollution.
