It is better for students to live away from home while studying at university than to live with parents. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Nowadays, more and more university students choose to live far away from their home. It is sometimes argued that moving far away from their families is much better than living with their parents. While there are some benefits to live with parents, I believe that it is better for university students to living far from home.

It is true that living with parents can help to build a positive family environment. University students who tend to live with their parents will have more opportunities to have face-to-face communications with their families frequently, which encourages them to have more emotional exchange and interaction. For example, students are more willing to share their happiness and sorrow with their parents face to face at home than those who can only get in touch with their parents by smartphone. This can bring family closer and create a tight-knit family.

However, living outside their parent scope enables university students to learn more life skills which they cannot learn from school. Moving out of home, students have to manage their budget and do all house chores by themselves, such as cooking, washing and cleaning. In this process, they will acquire important life skills and become more self-reliant individuals, which is more essential than family environment. For instance, one student who study abroad may make an effort to learn how to cook when he cannot get used to local foreign food.

Although living with parents has a beneficial effect on the family environment, from the perspective of benefiting the future development of college students, it is better for them to live far from home.
