Some people believe that it is good to share as much information as possible in scientific research, business and the academic world. Others believe that some information is too important or too valuable to be shared freely.

Globalization has made information circulating worldwide possible. Some people believe that we should share information unselfishly, while others argue we should not share precious information. In my opinion, accessible information is beneficial to us.

Sharing information will help scientists treat diseases. Access to first-hand medical information  will prevent researchers from going through trials and errors. Therefore, scientists are able to stick to the right direction of curing diseases. For instance, since the outbreak of Covid-19,  different countries have shared their researches about the coronavirus, and scientists are able to make progress on updated findings. Therefore, experts expect to develop the vaccine in a year. The time span of manufacturing a new vaccine is largely shrank, thanks to sharing medical information.

However, information-sharing can lead to plagiarizing others’ achievements. It is possible that corporations steal shared ideas to manufacture products and make profits. If a company releases the key information of a software on the Internet, competitors may take advantage of the information and develop similar softwares. As a result, plagiarizing undermines companies’ competitiveness. Furthermore, fewer company would like to innovate since it is easier to steal original ideas from other companies.

From my perspective, sharing information contributes to achieving a fairer education. Free information helps spread knowledge, so it makes equal access to education possible. A lot of colleges have launched free courses online so that students can learn at home. Therefore students from both urban and rural areas are accessible to the same studying materials. The differences of their living environments imposes little impact to their education so it is hopeful to reduce the educational gap.
