When it comes to whether should government invest money into space study, some people believe that it is not necessary because it is so costly that will rise the financial burden. However, I hold an opposite view.

Initially, the reason why should government spend money on outer space is that space travel can help us to find some material short on Earth. The amount of certain kind of mineral can be poor on our planet while abundant on another one. Take the Moon as an example. NASA has started its moon exploration project for several decades, which indeed brought them back precious information about what can we find on the Moon. Various kinds of stuff have been found on it. Among them, the most important one is hydrogen-3, a special form of a common hydrogen atom as well as the raw material for nuclear reactions. It is difficult for us to collect hydrogen-3 on the Earth because of its low proportion existing in water bodies. Fortunately, scientists sent to the Moon detected that on the Moon, there is an abundant storage of hydrogen-3. Space exploration would assist us to fetch back these kinds of substance and use them as clean energy.

Admittedly, someone may assert that outer space programs are so costly, stating that its achievement can not be seen until after a long period. They may add that government should use those money fund on practical projects such as medical care. Plausible as it sounds, the view above does not hold water. A country’s status in the world depends on the advanced degree of scientific programs. Science advancement is a kind of comprehensive strength of a country, the more advanced a country, the more powerful a country. Hence, if a country has a successful achievement on science area, it can play an important role in the world.

All in all, it is really necessary for a country to spend money on space projects because it can not only bring some minerals from other planets which are short on the Earth but also improve a country’s world status.
