Nowadays, more and more students choose to study overseas for better education and career opportunities despite some drawbacks.Personally, I strongly believe that the merits of studying abroad outweigh its demerits.
Perhaps, the most compelling argument is that students will become more independent by studying abroad.Studying abroad requires students to bear the burden of life by themselves instead of relying on their parents at home. For example,an overseas student often needs to find a place to stay in a strange country, cook by themselves after busy study, and do everything alone. Thus, all of these make international students become independent and skilled at problem-solving. In addition, educational institutions that overseas students choose to study in are generally those that can offer better courses than those in their home country.Students who study in these institutes are more likely to approach top experts and instructors , from whom they can acquire first-hand experience and advanced knowledge in an efficient way.
As a coin has two sides, there are also some disadvantages to studying overseas. One of the problems is that some countries tolerate smoking marijuana, and this is harmful to overseas students, especially those who are underage, physically and mentally. Another issue is that students with poor language proficiency may spend more time on learning a foreign language in order to study in the university of their choice. This will eventually limit their further development in their field of study, because of the imbalance of time distribution.
In conclusion, there is no denying that studying abroad has its advantages and disadvantages. Weighing the pros and cons, I believe young people should be encouraged to study abroad .(273words)
