    Parents do not understand their children so well as parents do 50 years ago.

    Nowadays, there is always a controversial statement that parents in modern society have weaker comprehension on their children than their counterparts in the past. From my perspective, this opinion does sound reasonable in some ways.

    Firstly, parents in recent years have less opportunities to take care of their offspring. Due to the increasing living cost in modern society, parents suffer from extremely high pressure. For instance, they must work extra hours to pay for the rent or debt of apartment, which may cost half of their monthly incomes. Arriving home at 8p.m. or even later, young parents often leave the ward of children to the elders or nursery schools. This results in the lack of parents accompanying, and therefore, kids become less familiar with who gave birth to them, which aggravates the mutual understanding between them.

    Additionally, the invisible gap between young generations and their parents becomes wider and wider. Children in new age are born and raised in advanced condition, ranging from nutrient supper to instrument lecture on weekend. This superior environment cultivates different thoughts and virtues of children, resulting in frequent debates between generations. Inharmony in family is often triggered by minute events, like squander of pocket money or staying outside for night that would never be understood by parents.

    Furthermore, the relation of kids and parents is being challenged by new technologies. Smartphones and iPads is prevailing in recent years, and they have shown greatly attractions to children comparing to playing with humans. Kids can easily get the feeling of achievement and satisfactory when they pass over games on tablet. Artificial intelligence is also a competitor against parents in pleasing children, since its database consists of numerous jokes and bedtime stories. Undoubtfully, the relation of parents and kids cannot maintain firmly under this situation, and understanding is hard to achieve.

    To sum up, comparing to our grandparents and their peers, new parents are more difficult to understand their kids, and thus they should pay more attention to the thoughts of children after work as well as enhancing communication in spare time.

    1. Numerous grammatical errors;
    2. More than 45% of sentences exceed 20 words. Shorten/split them.
    3. Convert passive sentences into their active counterparts.
