It seems that charitable behaviors are not framed to specific charity organizations anymore. And more citizens other than the rich become more involving in donations, including giving away their clothes, foods, or other daily essentials to the needy people, even to whom they are not familiar. Personally, I agree with the idea that people are more willing to help people they do not know than they were in the past.

To begin with, people at our generation are more connected to each other than before. In other words, taking advantage of the internet, we are able to keep track of every event happening in the opposite part of the world. We have the chance of realizing that there are groups of people who are suffering from lacking foods, warm clothes, or clean water. Conforming to human’s nature — empathy, we would be willing to help those people alleviate their pain. Taking a vivid example, a little girl who passes through the homeless have a higher chance of sparing her savings to protect them from freezing in the cold than a girl who is told that the homeless are poor in the winter.

In addition, people nowadays have more redundant/useless goods than our previous generation as a result of a better life. Undoubtedly, we are living in a world filled with quick fashions, advertisements that lure us to spend money. Under most circumstances, we would buy more products than we need only because of the advertisement “buy one get one free” or purchase a fancy dress because your favorite influencer recommends it even though it does not fit you well. People are indirectly forced to buy unnecessary staff but reluctant to waste them. To balance out the pity, they end up donating them to the needy people.

To summarize, it is human’s nature to give their hands to the ones are suffering, and witnessing their pains would trigger us to act, such as donating foods and clothes. However, this is also the result of consumerism.
