People who develop different skills are more successful than people who develop one skill only

When it comes to developing skills, opinions vary, based on different backgrounds, values, and experience. Some claim that specializing in on one skill is the better method for individual development. However, from my point of view, learning different skills is more instrumentalin our study, personal life and work.

First of all, mastering multiple skills makes it possible for us to better study our majors. This is because, different skills can compensate for each other’s shortcomings, and enable students to better understand the true meaning of their professions. My friend John, who is studying in Peking University majoring in finance, is a good case in point. John once thought that he just needed to grasp the knowledge of finance, which is enough for him to do research in this field. However, soon after that, he realized he was wrong. When he analyzed stock market conditions, the simple statistical knowledge that he commended such as unary regression analysis and descriptive statistics cannot be instrumental for him, and he had to learn some senior knowledge like mathematical modeling. So John changed his thought, and studied courses in mathematics and computing on his own. Several months later, John has learned R language and Python, even with some advanced mathematics such as Discrete Mathematics and Time series analysis. Last month, John, a boy now with different skills, accomplished a project regarding behavior relationship in stock market perfectly and was appreciated by a professor who are rewarded of outstanding research. Therefore, it seems evident that learning different skills is beneficial to study than only one skill.
