Society is based on rules and laws. Society would not function well if individuals were free to do whatever they want. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Rules and laws serve as a regulatory tool with high efficiency. Society where everyone has the freedom to follow their heart would face a giant trouble on functioning. I hold the view that total autonomy of people would not help the operation of whole society and some limitations don’t work either.
People tend to pursue personal interests without any rules, which would stop the society making any progress. It is likely to think of themselves rather than others first when they are free to make a decision, in which way the whole society would not play an important role in their lives and exist then. Anyone who wants more profits by sacrificing the forests, for example，would break the balance between human and nature and eventually destroy the society.
In addition, society would not go on well if there are no rules and laws to supervise people’s behaviors. People easily become passionate or even crazy without restrictions all of a sudden, making society lose control. For instance, there would be an increasing number of robberies to ruin the peace of society if they think they are free to take away other people’s belongings.
However, some rules and laws may not work for the function of society. People need to be educated more to understand the significance of harmony to the society instead of just getting the fierce and severe punishments.
To summarize, society won’t function well in continuation and safety under the freedom of all people and it is not enough to have rules and laws only.
