Some people have ambitious dreams and keep pursuing them, but other people always focus on realistic goals and try to achieve them. Which do you think is better and why?

When it comes to setting future goals, people are constantly struggling between an ambitious dream and realistic goals. Which of them better? Needless to say, both options seem to be advantageous in one way while disadvantageous in the other way. However, I consider the realistic objectives to work better than ambitious ones.

The primary reason for my propensity is that realistic dreams tend to be more achievable and effective. Think about it, what is the hardest part in the pursuit of a dream? The most likely answer is the first step! After stepping out, the situation becomes clearer. A typical example would be writing a thesis. Before you start, everything is obscure. And only when you begin to write the first word can you realize potential obstacles and then solve them.

Moreover, what is worth noticing is that we often achieve realistic dreams more quickly. The clearness of realistic dreams makes them more operable. In such scenario, it is easier to divide the whole objective into many small parts. And the smaller goals enable people to finish them faster. On the contrary, when you have a big dream, the steps between your current situation and your destination would be so distant. Then how can you picture a possible path easily?

Of course, it’s possible to raise arguments against my standpoint. For example, people may argue than realistic dreams make one achieve less, which is not the reality at all. To be specific, realistic dreams are not the final goal. You may set a new realistic dream after making one come true, and such a circle can keep going and going. That is to say, the achievement of small realistic dreams will accumulate and form wonderful accomplishments.

All in all, both sides contain certain strong points and weak points. After contemplating the most important factors mentioned above, we can safely draw the conclusion that the benefits of realistic dreams outweigh those of ambitious dreams So next time you set a dream, try to make it realistic!
