Many people consider class size as a very important factor when choosing schools for their kids. While some think large classes better for students’ studying, I believe smaller classes can benefit them more.

We have to admit students in larger classes can better compare themselves with other students. They are are able to give a pretty accurate self-positioning in the class through comparing tests grades and class performance. Peer pressure from classmates is able to stimulate students to work harder and get better grades. The feeling of unwilling to fall behind will help students exert themselves and spend more time on studying. The entire class will be in a virtuous cycle in this way. I believe this will be beneficial to all the students in the class.

However, teachers in smaller classes can distribute more time and energy on each student compared to those in larger classes. Teachers time is limited and it is difficult for them to take good care of each students if the class is too large. However, things will be much better in smaller classes. For example, teachers are able to talk with every students about the flaws in their essays and answer each question they have throughly. Also, if teachers got extra time and energy, they may provide the class more studying resources and materials that can help improving the grade.

Another thing is students in smaller classes know each other better. In traditional Chinese classrooms, students need to get along with 60 or even more of their classmates. The result of this is students in smaller classes got more time to spend with their classmates. It is imaginable that they will be more united with each other. Students in smaller classes will do more activities and communicate with each other more. Like they might spend time together on doing volunteers, club activities… Friendship will emerge naturally through the process.

Consider from various aspects, small class size is more suitable for students nowadays. Benefitted from both their studying lives and social lives, I believe they will have a much happier school lives.
