Education is a crucial way for individuals to learn knowledge before entering the society. Some people hold the view that education should be given priority compared with academic subjects. However, other people emphasise that students should learn to distinguish what is right and wrong. In my observation, righteous values can make the students behave better.

Merely mastering academic knowledge will not qualify an individual to adapt to the society. When looking for jobs, in many students’ opinions, educational background is the only thing that matters. Nevertheless, in an interview, individuals also have to explain how to solve different ethical dilemmas presented by the interviewers. Wrong decisions will not only bring about severe consequences to the companies they work for but also would affect their opportunities for promotion. The interviewers tend to prefer the candidates who are able to judge accurately and decisively.

When it comes to conflicts of personal interests, people are more inclined to choose what is favourable to them. For example, many creative companies gradually languish because of uncontrolled plagiarism. Those stealing others’ intellectual property only care about the profit but ignore ethical principles. Thus, students should learn how to behave morally during this stage of education.

The gainsayers may argue that teaching how to judge things can be a waste of time, with no improvement in students’ grades. Admittedly, the fundamental requirement for many jobs is whether the grades are up to standard. However, the quality of education should also be measured by the behaviour of the students, which enables students to go further in their careers.

To sum up, schools should pay more attention to the behavious of the students. Only with righteous values and a strong personality can one become successful.
