Many parents, even students themselves have long hold the misunderstanding that college life is simply about learning knowledge from books, such as attending classes and libraries. However, in my opinion, the aim of college education is to build up all kinds of abilities in order to make students better survive in future societies. Therefore, I  definitely agree that sports and social activities should receive equal financial support at universities and colleges.

First, sports, or physical activities is no less important than courses in the classroom. Actually, keeping healthy by doing sports is a crucial prerequisite for good study. Without good health, no one can compete in this ever-changing world. Doing sports is not only beneficial for our health, but other abilities too. For example, playing basketball requires a lot of teamwork. In order to win the game, you should also know how to cooperate with your team player,  such as to catch the ball that someone passes. What’s more, physcial activities also build up one’s character. Evidence has showed that  a successful player is often a person with great perseverance and patience.

Second, social life is also one inseparable part in college life. Participating in social activities is good for developing social skills. Courses and books only tell about the student what to do, but not how to do it productively. For example, how to put forward or enforce your great idea smoothly without being opposed by others in a meeting requires communicating techniques, which can be practiced only in social activities. Nowadays, students are so busy with their study that they are literally living in a vacuum not aware of the world outside campus. Social activities like community jobs can help them to understand the situation of the people around them and improve their perspective-taking, which will benefit them in future life.

Overall, sports and social activities are an integral part in college education. They can benefit the students by building up their body and character.  Therefore, they should be attached equal importance to as classes and libraries and receive equal financial support.
