First, X-ray results has shown that the fur collar was not painted by Rembrant originally. Instead, someone a hundred years later painted the fur collar for the woman to make her appear more gorgeous and gracious, which increased the value of the painting. That is the reason for the inconsistency of the woman’s portrait.

Second, when Rembrant just finished this painting, the light-color the woman wore reflected light on her face, which is just what we expect. However, as time goes by, the color of the cloth get darker and darker, which explained the error of shadow and light in this painting.
Third, at first, the painting was painted in only one wood panel. But Rembrant wanted to make his painting appear more grand and valuable, therefore he glued several pieces of wood panel together. Besides, research has shown that the wood Rembrandt used in this painting is very similar to the wood he used in his other paintings.

From all the arguments above, it is evident that the the painting Portrait of an Elderly Woman in a White Bonnet is a work by Rembrant.
