The bar chart compares the number of multinational applicants that a European university had over a period of four years.

It is clear that the majority of applicants are from China between 2oo4 and 2007, but America overtook China as the main source of applicants in 2008. America saw the biggest rise in the number of applicants over the 4-year period.

In 2004, China output 27000 students to a European country, outnumbering the second largest resource of applicants, America, by 7000 applicants. Over the following years, however, the amount of Chinese applicants fell by approximately 12000, whereas applicants from America saw a significant rise by 7000. By 2008, America has become the preliminary provider of applicants with the number of students applying a European university reaching 28000.

The other two applicant suppliers were Japan and Russia. In 2004, the number of applicants output by these two countries were 5000 and 1000 respectively. Over the following years, the number of Japanese applicants ascended massively, reaching 10000 in 2008, while the amount of Russia only rose by a negligible amount.
