“Over the past year, our late-night news program has devoted increased time to national news and less time to weather and local news. During this time period, most of the complaints received from viewers were concerned with our station’s coverage of weather and local news. In addition, local businesses that used to advertise during our late-night news program have just canceled their advertising contracts with us. Therefore, in order to attract more viewers to the program and to avoid losing any further advertising revenues, we should restore the time devoted to weather and local news to its former level.”

Write a response in which you discuss what specific evidence is needed to evaluate the argument and explain how the evidence would weaken or strengthen the argument.

The first evidence is that the advertising revenues are mostly from local businesses instead of national businesses. if although no more local businesses are interested in investing in this television station, it received much more investment from other regions, then the argument is weakened.

The second evidence is that the decrease in the advertisement from local businesses is related to the declining number of viewers who are complaining the less time to weather and local news. If, for example, it is because local economic depression makes the local businesses feeble, then the argument is weakened.

The third evidence is that viewers complaining are mostly locals, but due to the increased time to national news do not appeal to national viewers and without increasing local viewers. If the increase of the number of national viewers is more dramatic than the decrease of the number of local viewers, then the argument is weakened.
