The harm of electronic cigarettes to teenagers

In the past 10 years, the number of smokers in the world has decreased, but the number of e-cigarette users has shown an upward trend. E-cigarettes have become a fashion. More than 30% of e-cigarettes are young people, and more and more minors are becoming e-cigarettes consumer groups. The World Health Organization has pointed out that e-cigarettes that claim to be less harmful than traditional tobacco and have the effect of helping to quit are neither safe nor healthy, and actually have a greater danger than traditional tobacco. Experts also warned teenagers that the vapors produced by e-cigarettes are not harmless water vapors and actually contain some of the same toxic chemicals found in traditional cigarette smoke. And for teenagers, it’s easy to try to smoke e-cigarettes and have the risk of developing smoking habits. In all, e-cigarette is so extremely harmful to teenagers in many aspects that it should be forbidden with the help of different kinds of forms such as restricting the use of e-cigarettes by minors, prohibiting the sale of e-cigarettes to minors, and protecting people from toxic second-hand smoke emitted by e-cigarettes.

Smoking e-cigarettes will result in serious disease. Teenagers are growing and developing their body, however, all the organs are not mature enough to resist the harm of smoking the e-cigarettes. For the reason that teenagers are much weaker than adults ,teenagers are easier to take in the poison of the e-cigarettes. The survey which covers 25 states in the America conducts that the age of smoking is negatively correlated with the death rate in lung cancer, which means the younger that the smokers are , the more chance he or she will have cancer in the long future. If the mortality rate of lung cancer in smokers is 20 times than non-smokers and that of 20-24 years old is 10.08. %, 4.08% over the age of 25. These figures represent that they will have more chance to die from lung cancer when they begin to smoke at an earlier age. On average, if smokers start smoking from adolescents and continue, they will have a 50% chance of dying from tobacco-related diseases. Half of them will die in middle age, or before the age of 70, they will lose about 22 years of normal life expectancy. In conclusion , smokers who smoke from the teenager time are more likely to die earlier than the people who do not smoke.

Smoking e-cigarettes has the extremely terrible influence in the development of the brain as well as intelligence. In the flue gas of tobacco, the content of carbon monoxide is high. Human brain reacts with the hypoxia very quickly for the reason that it needs a lot of oxygen. Therefore, if teenagers smoke more smoke, they will feel that the energy is not concentrated, and even headaches and dizziness may occur. Little by little, the brain is hurt and the thinking becomes less and less sensitive. Gradually, teenagers will suffer from it and have to face an extremely terrible academic performance in the end.

Nicotine in tobacco is a neurotoxin that primarily also damages the human nervous system. Some teenagers subjectively feel that smoking can relieve fatigue, refresh the spirit, etc. This is a one-time excitement of the nervous system. In fact, the euphoria caused by nicotine is short-lived, and the nervous system after inhibition is inhibited. , As a result, neuromuscular responses’ sensitivity as well as accuracy after smoking are decreased. A study by a psychology research institute showed that smokers’ intelligence was lower than non-smokers.

However, some teenagers believe that smoking e-cigarettes has positive effect which is mislead by some social opinions. E-cigarettes are advocated by business stores to have a healthy effect. The title of this article is “Adults Worry E-Cigarettes Will Encourage Teen Smoking,” which published on February 2, 2014. It talks about that amount of parents in America worried their children will try to smoke because of using e-cigarettes. It says that advocates of e-cigarettes claim the products are healthier than the traditional cigerettes, however ,the opponents resists that the poison still exit and it is extremely unhealthy. Comments from Matthew M. Davis who is the director of the C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital National Poll working on Children’s Health are included. These surveys and studies show that e-cigarettes are becoming a growing health threat to teenagers. Adults in the study who used e-cigarettes to quit were supportive, while parents of teenagers felt e-cigarettes were a threat. With strong curiosity and weak self-control, teenagers are easily addicted to new things. Teenagers do not have a clear and full recognition in the threats of e-cigarettes. However, we can not say e-cigarettes are not harmful even teenagers can smoke casually. The surveys and research, in the other hand, could prove scientifically that cigarettes do harm to teenagers.

So many negative and horrible effects of e-cigarettes are mentioned above that smoking cessation is imperative, which needs the help of social organization, individual as well as the country. The prevention and control policy for electronic cigarettes will affect the effect of tobacco control in the world. The World Health Organization advocates limiting and prohibiting the use of e-cigarettes at its tobacco control conferences. The World Health Organization pointed out in the report that e-cigarettes are harmful to public health. It is not a means of quitting smoking. It must strengthen its control and must not promote e-cigarettes to non-smokers and young people.

Individuals are also encouraged to gather together, sharing their opinions and listening suggestions given by others who work for quitting smoking together. “Creating a public service announcement video to get people is really a good method. Your school community address smoking especially other students with the help of your class, to quit, or not even begin, smoking e-cigarettes.” explains by Bratsis Michael E. Society could be effective and powerful dealing with this from my prospective. I think this kind of activity is necessary. If a large number of students use cigarette products or e-cigarettes, they can learn about the harm of e-cigarettes and tobacco by watching the promotion of video. This is a good and reasonable suggestion to keep more teenagers away from e-cigarettes and tobacco products.

Preventing youth smoking should also be achieved by the country’s legislation. Through legislation, regulations prohibiting smoking in public places, prohibiting smoking in front of adolescents, prohibiting the sale of cigarettes to teenagers, and prohibiting smoking among young people have become legal norms and severely punished against violators. I think this is an effective way to prevent youth smoking. At the same time, we must urge families, schools and society to strengthen management education for young people, guide them to consciously stay away from tobacco, actively participate in healthy and beneficial cultural and sports activities, and strive to create a colorful and lively environment for young people to grow up in the whole society.

In my opinion, teenagers could achieve e-cigarettes quitting with the help of themselves, social organization as well as the country. Social organization will have the biggest power among these three for the reason that there are some people who have the same experience and could share their opinion organize these kinds of activities. Teenagers could feel more encouraged and more confident to quit smoke, which will let them in the right track again. When they realize that smoking e-cigarettes really have a terrible influence in intelligence, health even psychology indeed, they will devote themselves into healthier routine. The public including school teachers, police and people working in different areas should also pay more attention to teenagers’ smoking. More suggestions should be given and more activities about e-cigarettes should be hold in the society which could make teenagers grow up in a healthy atmosphere. This problem will gradually be solved in the long term.
