Some people say that the main environmental problem of our time is the loss of particular species of plants and animals. Others say that there are more important environmental problems.
It is argued whether the loss of certain species should be considered as the major environment crisis. In my opinion, although vanishing species make a critical hit against our environment, there are lots of other more important questions requiring attention.
Loss of species, as its denotation demonstrates, jeopardizes the diversity of specimen. Many species are marked as endangered nowadays all over the world. Whenever the environment becomes harsher, these species are going to disappear. The disappearance is liable to bring about damage to the local ecosystems, and in some cases, cause financial loss in the local economy. For example, if some places are famous for some ubiquitous species which results in prosper of tourism industry, and when the species died out, these places are liable to lose tourists and suffer from recessions.
However, other environmental problems are not trivial enough to be neglected. Actually, climate change, or in other words, global warming, should be recognized to be the most prominent one. On the one hand, global warming is already known for contributing to melting icebergs which attribute to rising sea levels, which is lethal to corals for they are getting less sunlight. On the other hand, global warming is also melting the ice in the frozen soil, which is notable for refining the gasoline gas and ancient germs to the underground.
It is not economically wise or prudent to consider the loss of specific species as the currently most important environmental challenge, when we still have a great deal of environment problems to handle.
