Do you agree or disagree with the statement? The more money people have, the more money they should give away to charity.

Charity work nowadays drawn great attention from the public and people who earn a lot of money, usually, will be asked more frequently to contribute to charity stuff compared with people who are relatively poor. However, in my opinion, there are some logical and practical fallacies in this. Wealthy people do not have the obligation to participate in charity work.

First of all, according to the property law, people have the right to deal with their fortunes as long as they are made legally. Rich people are no exception. In general, most rich people earn their money through lawful channels like starting business, doing cutting-edge scientific research, or performing brilliantly in NBA. In this case, they have been working hard to make that huge amount money and they deserve to spend it on anything they want. Of course, they can allocate the money on charity but this is not compulsory and obligatory.

Moreover, if these people donate their money out, it harm the society in the long run. Usually, people who have such high income occupy important position of the society and if their money is taken away from them, they might lose the competence and motivation to carry on. Accordingly, their failure will exert a negative influence on the society as a whole. For example, if a company owner invests all his money to charity, his business will definitely shrink. In this case, cutting staff member would be inevitable and this will lower the employment rate of the society. Also, if a researcher knows that no matter how hardworking and innovative he is, he will be forced to give up his money after he published this research out-come and achieve high perk, he will not have any desire to do in-depth research again and the technology development of the society will be undermined.

In conclusion, people who possess a huge amount of money do not have the obligation to do charity work considering the law and the long term welfare for the whole society.
