Do you agree with the statement that the most important goal of education is to teach people to educate themselves?

Nowadays, there is a dispute around education. Some people believe that the most important goal of education is to teach people mainly with the help of teachers, while others think it’s more significant to teach people to educate themselves. As for me, I agree that the more essential aim of education is to let people learn to educate themselves.

First of all, knowledge in today’s world are countless, it’s unlikely to teach all of them to students. Take the development of computer as an instance. Long time before Normen was born, the science of computer wasn’t invented yet. However, the knowledge of computer science burst out from 20 century and a new subject was appeared. New things develop like this every few years, so instead of learning knowledge from school at one time, it’s feasible to learn new information by ourselves.

Additionally, with the development of Internet, it’s convenient for us to learn new things on our own. Given the accessibility of various information and knowledge online, there is no need for teachers to teach students hand-by-hand. For example, I go to Google to search news from all over the world everyday to let myself keep pace with time. Armed with the Internet, I feel like having a most powerful and knowledgeable mind, from which I learn much more knowledge than from professors.

Even though under the guidance of experts, people can learn new things more sufficiently with less effort. Nevertheless, the world is changing so rapidly and is getting more complicated too. The knowledge we learn from teachers are limited and always need to be renewed. And only we gain the ability to learn new things by ourselves, can we have a more open mind and comprehensive knowledge to face difficulties.

Above all, it is the ability to refresh our mind by ourselves that can help us catch up with time. Hence teachers in school should pay more attention on improving the student’s independent study ability rather than widening students’ range of knowledge.
