In my perspective, compared to hiring famous teachers, more money should be spent on improving facilities. Because better facilities can directly place students as beneficiaries, while larger numbers of famous professors cannot do that.

To begin with, owning to the developed Internet, currently students do not rely on teachers so much as tens of years ago. They get access to numerous knowledge and information through network, most of which their teachers even do not know. In most occasions, students study by themselves in library or dormitory without teachers guiding. If there are not sufficient distinguish teachers in universities, they can turn to the Internet for help.

To explain further, even if more exceptional teachers are hired, there exsits little possibility for them to teach classes confronting students directly. In other words, students cannot benefit from these new professors directly. Since most of university ranking systems put one university’s academic achievements in the primary place, leaders of universities always attach more importance to academic research than teaching. As a result, universities will always distribute a lot of academic tasks to these famous professors.

Moreover, if facilities on campus are worn out, students cannot maintain daily study efficiently. For example, if the computers in library or computer center are easy to be down, students have to spend a lot of time on waiting for repairing; even worse, they may lose their saved files. The same things happen in campus life. If students have to pay a lot of attention on which desks in dormitory need to be changed or how to reduce the numbers of cockroaches living with them, they cannot focus on study.

Finally, if universities spend money on improving facilities, teachers also benefit from these new facilities. During teaching, teachers can use new technology in classrooms to broaden new types of teaching. When it comes to doing research, with advanced laboratory equipment, professors are able to produce more academic achievements efficiently.
