Today the high sales of popular consumer goods reflect the power of advertising and not the real needs of the society in which they are sold. To what extent do you agree with these views?

Along with the process of industry ability, the supply of society rises, and advertisements therefore appear to increase the society’s demand to meet the increasing supply. However, this phenomenon may misguide people believe that the high sales of popular consumer goods are reflected by adverting power but not the real need of society. I can’t agree that adverting is the main engine for goods sale.

According to the economic theory, demand determines supply, and the advertisement is a kind of supply. Vividly speaking, no matter how fascinating your meat advertisement is , you can never attract a firm vegetarian. In addition, theoretically, our physical needs create desires through different culture effects which produce all sorts of various demands. For instance, if people in eastern Asia are hungry, they many want rice while an European in the same situation many starving for bread. In other words, we can’t attribute the success to the rice advertisement if a starving Chinese would be more attractive by it compared with bread advertisement. Therefore, the true reason is that it meet customers needs. So, the key to make a successful advertisement  is based on target peoples demand otherwise it will be useless.

However, advertisements may play an important role when their competitors are share the same catalog with them. For example, when customers need bread, many different advertisement will give them unique information to highlight the their strength such as they are organic, sugar free and so on. In this case, the power of advertisement severely works.

To conclude, the real need of society is the main factor reflect the high sales of goods while advertisement is just helpful to some degree. Although our production ability soar nowadays, we still need cautiously and appropriately use our ability to supply goods which meet customers ‘ needs.

Along with the process of production capacity, the supply of society rises. Therefore, advertisements play an essential role to stimulate the society’s demands which are supposed to match the increasing provide. However, this phenomenon may misguide people into believing that the power of advertising is the main dynamic of increasing consumer goods sales rather than the real need of society. I’m afraid that i couldn’t agree that advertising is the main engine for goods sales.

According to the economic theory, demand determines supply.  Vividly speaking, no matter how fascinating the meat advertisements are, they can never attract a firm vegetarian. And obviously, advertisements belong to supply, thus they have few chance to be the main impetus of sales. As a result, the key to promote sales is to meet society’s needs instead of making sophisticated advertisements. For instance, if people in eastern Asia are hungry, they many want rice and pork while Europeans in the same situation might prefer bread and beef. Consequently, it is unfair to attribute the success to the advertisement if a starving Chinese buy rice but not bread. And this example proves that it is the demands   (fostered by distinct cultures in this case) that influence consumers’ shopping choice.

However, advertisements may play an important role to provide information to audience when a new product launch. Coca cola spent years to turn back peoples’ mind that cola is a drink rather a medicine. They are also of avail to highlight products strength when competitors share the same scope with them. For example, bread advertisements spare no effort to emphasis they are organic and without additives.

To conclude, the real need of the society is the decisive factor reflecting the high sales while advertisements are just helpful to some degree. Still, our production ability soars nowadays, so, how to make good use of advertisement to drive demand is considerable, too.
