In the past, young people depended too much on their parents to make decisions for them; today young people are better able to make decisions about their own lives. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

Young people today are less tend to depend on their parents to help them make their life decisions. At the era of information explosion, young people no longer need to listen to their parents’ advise, or even worse, they don’t want to do so.

So, why there is a decreasing necessity to ask for parents’ advice? The answer is clear: the internet. The Internet allows us to go beyond the experience barrier, which used to be a privilege of aged people, which is, clearly, parents. For example, we have to ask parents’ advice about purchasing a house, because they know more about it. Maybe someone is more professional, but they are not approachable as parents did. So, experience empowers parents to help us make decisions. (Or make that decision for us at first place, referring to some “tiger mom”). However, this no longer work today. The Internet knows more about buying a house than mothers do: when you search “buying a house” on Google, you will get a million results; thousands of YouTubers will tell you, step by step, how to pick a house that is worthy-buying. The justification of believing in parents, that is, the barrier built up by knowledge and experience, is, sadly, dissolved by the internet, on where everyone can post their experiences.

Knowledge-barrier is not the only victim of the dissolution. The Internet also dissolved our dependency on parents through stigmatization. According to pop culture, the dependency is a symbol of weakness, cowardliness, and immaturity, regardless of its various degree and diversified natures. From Cyndi Lauper to Lady Gaga, our culture is full of rebelling characters, which is cool, but it also shows a common bias: dependency is a zero-tolerant characteristic. However, isn’t “dependency” is another name of “connect to each other”, what we advocate all the time? There is not a single “connection” that can exist without “dependency”, because they all share the same nature, that is, trust and willingness to share your life with someone else.

    1. About 40% of the sentences exceed 20 words. Shorten/split them.
    2. Lengthy paragraphs. Restrict each paragraph to 90 words.
