The first strategy given by the author is using special desalination machines to remove the salt by evaporating the lake’s water and separating the salt from the water. However, according to the professor, some chemical material left in this process might be toxic which can damage people’s health if the wind of the material is inhaled through the wind blowing evaporating smog around .

Secondly, the author proposes to dilute the salt level with the ocean water delivered through pipelines or canals. While the professor points out that both pipelines and canals are too expensive for the local government to sustain because of the long distance of 100 kilometers between the Salton Sea.

Lastly, the author offers that dividing the lake into several sections and making sure the freshwater flows into the main section to decline the salinity to make organisms here survive. On the contrary, the professor questions the durability of the solution as the result of geological activities like earthquakes. The fence dividing the sections can easily collapse during frequent disasters. Consequently, the high-salinity water will mix back to the main section.
