The reading passage puts forward three solutions about how to prevent injuries to birds. However, the speaker in the listening considers that none of them will effectively stop injuring birds.

The first solution mentioned in the passage is to replace the regular glass with one-way glass. With this glass, people can see out while birds cannot see in. Then, birds will not try to fly through it because they will understand that it is glass. On the contrary, in the speaker’s word, the outside of glass reflects light just like a mirror. If birds see a tree or the sky in the mirror, they will not understand that they are trying to fly through a mirror. Therefore, they will still be injured by the glass windows.

Besides, the reading suggests that painting colorful lines or other designs on window glass is a good solution. People can see through the openings in the window while birds will see the stripes and thus avoid flying through it. Nevertheless, according to the speaker, Birds will perceive the openings of glass windows as open holes and will try to fly right through it. Though the unpainted area can be extremely small so that the birds will not think that they are able to fly through such holes, in this case, the inside of the glass will be too dark and it’s inappropriate.

Finally, the reading holds that equipping the building with powerful electromagnets which can create magnetic field can help avoid birds’ injuries because they can sense magnetic fields and will be steered away from the building. However, the speaker claims that birds sense magnetic fields only when they are travelling very long distances. When they are flying from a side of city to another, they will use their eyes and thus it cannot prevent injuries to birds.

n the reading, the writer talks about three solutions which could solve the problem that birds couldn’t distinguish between glass and open air. The lecture in the listening, however, believes that none of the three solutions is useful and uses specific reasons and details to support her claim.

To begin with, the reading passage states that One-Way glass, which is the galss that people of the building could see out but outside birds could not see in, would make birds understand that it’s barrier and try to avoid. In the listening, however, the professor argue that birds couldn’t recognize the One-Way glass because the One-Way glass just look like a miror. Although the One-Way glass make birds can not see in, it would reflect everything off-building such as sky and tree so that never would birds could understand it’s barrier. In the fact, they can not relieze neither clean glass and miror.

In addition, the writer points thatpeople could paint some striking designs on clear glass to prevent bird misunderstand. On the contrary, the lecturer disagrees with this idea by demostrating the fact that the solution also have problem. Birds would consider the patterns without color as a hole which they could go through and then fly in, rather than avoid trying to approach. If change the opening window to  be smaller, the building light is too dark to people work.

The last but not least, the reading passage mentions that  people could guide birds away from buildings by creating an aritificial magnetic field, which could help birds find the correct direction.Yet the lecture finds this method indefensible because it just useful to birds that migrate from cold place to warm place for a long distance . In other words, it’s not effective way to help birds that just travel in a short distance such as flying next city. These birds recognize the direction only by eyes so that never would they be guided by artificial magnetic field.
