It is argued that college students should learn whatever they like, I agree with this view, although some people argue that college students should only study useful subjects in the long term.

People who support interest-orientated study argue that respecting students’ interest can feasibly pave a wider way for their future occupation. College campus qualify students with extensive professional or extracurricular knowledge, through which very able students can obtain theories and skills from diverse domains, so they are possible to not only focus on the field they study professionally but also devote to another dominance where they have standby skills. Students having good command of video-editing could embark on new media artists to earn extra earning; thus they gasp more opportunities for their careers.

On the other hand, some people believe college students should only learn subjects which is appliable to future use. Universities are considered as talent-cultivating highland, meaning that they ought to turn out high achievers whose theoretical knowledge and practical technics can accelerate the advanced scientific technology innovation. Fields such as medicine, aerospace, biology and so forth are faced with excessive demand for very able students, so it’s understandable to put limited resource into science and technology subjects learning.

In my view, allowing college students to persue their own interest can lift averaged educational level in society. A more complete system of talent-fostering is built by shaping environment that encourages free but beneficial interest. More junior and senior students are likely to be attracted by such atmosphere and are willing to struggle to enter universities, after which the overall literacy level in society can be promoted.

In conclusion, while it is reasonable to attach importance to useful subjects solely, society can gain more form allowing interest-orientated study in long term.
