Your job has a greater effect on your overall happiness than social life does.

The issue that how to gain the happiness has triggered a myriad of discussion. Some people think that they are happy when they attend some social activities while others are not. Personally, I am favor of the view that people’s jobs have greater effects on their overall happiness.

To begin with, jobs can bring people more lasting happiness. People need to deal with more complex relationship since the job is highly related with individuals’ loss and gain. Therefore, they can learn how to carefully use the language, effectively communicate with others and properly make the suggestions. If people can really learn those practical ability to improve their life, they may have a sense of accomplishment, thereby gaining more lasting happiness. In contrast, people can only gain the temporary happiness in the social life. They may feel happy when they play games, sing songs, dance and drink with many new friends. But they cannot learn any useful ability from those activities, and thus that kind of temporary happiness cannot have greater effects on people’s overall life than the happiness from jobs.

Additionally, people can gain money by working so that they can improve their life better. Nowadays, some researches have shown that a person’s happiness is closely related to their financial ability to some extent. If people have a certain amount of money, they can use it to travel, learn some new ability such as taking photography, buy some things they like, respect their parents and so on, thereby getting happiness. The most important way to earn money is to find a job and work hard. In contrast, it is obvious that people not only cannot earn money but also may waste lots of money by doing social activities. Therefore, they will also lose many happiness. For example, a person who is immersed in gambling with his social friends may feel happy temporarily, but it is possible for him to regret that he wastes lots of money and feels sad after gambling. Focusing on his job to earn money, he can meet many needs in life to gain happiness.
