The widening gap between the rich and the poor will definitely impact individuals and society.

For individuals, the gap would affect their productivity and attitude to life. On social media, some people often show their material wealth. Compared with them, those who are not so rich may find themselves experiencing life with hard work but unsatisfactory income. And sometimes, they realize that their peers or those around them have a better quality of life. Therefore, the gap between the reality and the desire to be rich makes them pessimistic and lose the passion for work, or even refuse to socialize with others.

The gap will also influence the development of society. It may trigger a negative emotion of the poor to the rich, resulting in conflicts, even crimes. These factors of disharmony mean an adverse environment for economic development. Besides, the gap will cause uneven distribution of social resources. For example, in an industry, the rich can get more related information and advanced technology, and thus earn more. And they have more opportunities to receive educational resources of higher quality. As a result, those without better resources are less competitive than the rich. Finally, there would be a lack of a harmonious environment for the social economy.

To tackle these problems, the macro-control of the government is very important. It requires more effective measures or policies for poverty alleviation. Moreover, the government should adjust people’s income through taxation and allocation. At the same time, the country needs to improve and complete the social security system.

In conclusion, the gap between the rich and the poor can cause many problems for individuals and society. For the solutions, the macro-control of government plays the most important role in narrowing the gap.
