Again and again, parents and teachers asked you to be honest in childhood. They want you to tell everything happens in school. However, people feel uncomfortable and even embarrassed about this requirement. Instead of a good quality, telling truth could be harmful under certain conditions, so everyone needs to treat it very carefully.

During a war, the most important thing in a commander’s mind is never to tell any truth to your enemies. Keeping secrets is keeping advantages. Telling truth to enemies about an attacking plan could lead to a disaster, where all your soldiers were trapped, crying and blooding helplessly. Next, imagine you were an engineer at a company. One day someone came up and asked how you had achieved so many awesome products. Although you may feel good to be admired, you cannot tell the truth. In a relationship such as competition or war, secrets are advantages, hence telling the truth is giving up your success. Being a liar is not a shame because you have your very reason to keep silence, for your country or company.

In addition, one should consider a proper time to say a truth. A good time is important and even crucial. When you were preparing a surprise party for your brother next Sunday, you would not want him to know anything about it in advance. He may ask your plan that day. In that case, you were in trouble. Telling the truth would ruin all your effort on this surprise party, doesn’t it? A lie could save everything. You told a lie not for something harmful. Keeping secrets is keeping surprises. Your brother may feel disappointed after hearing your detailed truth. More interesting and more exciting our life could be with surprises. Do not hesitate to be a liar if necessary.
