The pie charts compare the variation in the school expenditure for a UK school in 1981, 1991 and 2001, respectively.

Salaries account for the vast majority of the school expenditure in the three years, constituting 68%, 72%, and 60%, respectively. Around 45% of the school budget spent on teachers’ pay. Workers’ income approximately 22% to the school cost. Similarly, the school cost of insurance saw an increasing trend.

Teachers’ pay stood at 50% of total cost in 1991 but dropped to 45% in 2001. In 1981, the UK school spent 28% of total cost on other workers’ salaries. By 2001, expenditure on other workers’ incomes had fallen by 13%. By contrast, we saw an increase spending on insurance for the UK school, from 2% to 8%.

Expenditure on resources had increased to 20% by 1991 before decreasing to only 9% by the end of the period. In contrast, the opposite trend can be seen when we look at furniture and equipment costs. This cost dipped to only 5% of the total expenditure in 1991 but rose to 23% in 2001.
