Nowadays, there is always a controversial statement that parents in modern society have weaker comprehension of their children than their counterparts in the past. From my perspective, this opinion does sound reasonable in some ways.

Parents in recent years have fewer opportunities to take care of their offspring. Due to the increasing living cost in modern society, parents suffer from extremely high pressure. For instance, they work extra hours to pay for the rent of the apartment, which may cost half of their monthly incomes. Arriving home at 8 p.m. or even later, young parents often leave the ward of children to the elders or nursery schools. The busyness of parents results in the lack of companion. Kids are less familiar with who gave birth to them, which aggravates the mutual understanding in the family.

Additionally, the gap between young generations and their parents becomes wider and wider. Children in the new age are born and raised in advanced conditions, ranging from nutrient supper to instrument lecture on weekends. This superior environment cultivates different thoughts and virtues of children, resulting in frequent debates between generations. Inharmony is often triggered by minute events in the family, like squander of pocket money or staying outside for night that parents would never accept.

Furthermore, the relation between kids and parents deteriorates due to new technologies. Smartphones and iPads are prevailing and they have shown tremendous attractions to children comparing to playing with humans. Kids can simply obtain the sense of achievement and satisfaction when they pass over games on the tablet. Artificial intelligence is also a competitor against parents in pleasing children since its database consists of numerous jokes and bedtime stories. The relation between parents and kids cannot maintain firmly under this situation, and understanding is hard to achieve.

To sum up, comparing to our grandparents and their peers, new parents are more difficult to understand their kids. They should pay more attention to the thoughts of children after work and enhance their communication in spare time.
