In the era of rapid technological progress, an increasing number of people watch TV in their leisure time. Some people argue that reading could strengthen one’s imagination and language skills better than that of watching TV does. I disagree with the view.

Reading, a traditional way to enjoy oneself, transfers authors’ stories, ideas, or intentions in the form of characters. When someone reads literature, they could learn how to use language in a subtle way. For instance, people can use idioms learned in literacy works to express their notions naturally. In addition, the pictures of stories come to readers’ minds when they browse these literary works. It helps to cultivate imagination skills to some extent.

Although reading does benefit people, the obvious advantages of watching TV is undeniable. Languages are transmitted not only in words on subtitles but in sounds to people who watch TV. That makes audiences need to understand languages in forms of sounds from loudspeakers and words on subtitles. Thus, this supplies people with more advanced approach to train audiences’ language skills. Besides, TV programs supply audiences with more extensive and visualized recreational experiences. People would recall the pictures they watched before when they participate in relevant discussions. For example, when the audiences’ friends discuss the exploration of outer space, the images of the battle between human beings and exotic creatures in science fiction probably form in their minds.

In conclusion, both the two activities are sensible ways for relaxation. I believe watching TV render more development since it provides vivid pictures and clear language.
