Giving a glimpse into this rapidly changing world, the birth of numerous emerging industries has created abundant job opportunities. However, people frequently find themselves in a dilemma between getting a secure job or waiting for a better opportunity. From my perspective, differences between young people and older people should exist in their choices.

On the one hand, young people have no necessity to compromise a secure job. In order to find a satisfying job, they have plenty of time and energy to learn something new and taking the risk of making mistakes. Additionally, these mistakes could become valuable education for them to find a better job in the future. For instance, my friend Li, as an architect, told me he wants to shift his career direction towards drawing. The period he took drawing class at university triggered him to suffer from the painting addiction. I strongly encouraged him to make such a decision based on his good years of youth possessing exuberant energy. Although his decision disproved in the future, he can gain further inspiration from drawing to be an architect again.

On the other hand, older people should give priority to a secure job. They cannot afford to wait since their choices regarding work are subject to stability. With the duty of the family, they need a steady income to support it. Many living examples show that some elders are not willing to give in a stable job opportunity but unremittingly pursue better, which brings about their families suffering a major crisis without financial source. Besides, unlike young people, older age becomes an irresistible obstacle for them to make mistakes result by inadequate time and energy to start again.

In a nutshell, a secure job is for old people due to the requirements of stability. Young people should prioritize to pursue a satisfying job in order to live up to their good years of youth.

College professors often find themselves in a dilemma between research and teaching given their limited time. If they could grasp the focus of their work responsibility, it would be a cure for this dilemma. Form my perspective, a college professor should give priority to doing research.

To begin with, professors should not pour too much attention into educating students. In this rapidly changing world, university graduates lacking independent learning capability often find it challenging to adapt themselves to work requirements. Thus, the university should be a place that inspires students to study by themselves. Additionally, in high school, teachers are readily available to students due to the small class scale. In comparison, college lectures are often presented hundreds of students, thereby precluding a professor heeding various scientific puzzles.

Moreover, doing research can also facilitate professors’ academic career. Generally speaking, a professor’s status depends not only on whether his class is favored by students bu also on his contributions to academic circles. However, professors who are immersed in research are more likely to achieve academic success. For instance, my uncle is an Architecture professor at Tsinghua University. At the end of 2020, he had come up with a new design concept that hospital could make an efficient adjustment to unexpected pandemics such as COVID-19. The result of his research made him an instant celebrity, so an increasing number of students and scholars followed his fame into attending to his lecture. Tsinghua University also awarded him an honor.

In a nutshell, in order for students to fuel the thinking of autonomous learning to keep pace with this dynamic world, and for professors themselves to shift their academic status towards better, college professors should regard doing research as their main responsibility.

College professors often find themselves in a dilemma when they have to weigh their limited time and energy to educating students or doing research. If professors could grasp the focus of their responsibilities, it will be a cure for this dilemma.  In my opinion, a college professor should focus his work on doing research.

To begin with, professors should not pour too much attention into educating students. The world is changing all the time. After graduating, students who are bracing for all changes could not refresh their knowledge systems in time to adapt to their work requirements if they have not adequate self-study ability. Thus, university should be a place that inspires students to study by themselves. Not only that, in high school, teachers have easier access to their students due to the small scale of the class. In comparison, college lectures often allow hundreds of students to listen. It is horrible for a professor to focus on various puzzles waiting for his advice after a lecture.

Moreover, doing research facilitates professors’ own development. Generally speaking, a professor’s position depends on whether his class is favored by students and his contributions to academic circles. However, professors who are immersed in research are more likely to achieve academic success. For instance, my uncle is an Architecture professor at Tsinghua University. By the end of 2020, he had come up with a new design concept for hospital that could make efficient adjustments to unexpected plague, such as COVID-19. This result of his research made him an instant celebrity. An increasing number of students and scholars are attracted by his fame to listen to his lecture. Tsinghua University also awarded him an honor.

In a nutshell, in order for students to have the ability of autonomous learning to keep pace with this changeable world, and for professors themselves to get better development, college professors should regard doing research as their main responsibility.

Giving a glimpse into college education, university professors play an important role in cultivating talents. There are different standpoints regarding the primary duty of a college professor. Some argue that professors should pay more attention to educating than doing research, while I personally hold a completely opposite perspective.

To begin with, a college professor is not competent to individual education for each student.   In high school, students generally acquire knowledge from what teachers taught us during class time and reinforcing it through loads of test. Students can often discuss problems with teachers face to face. Since the scale of every class is so small that teachers have easier access to their students. In comparison, a college lecture always allows hundreds of students to listen, meaning that one professor is dealing with students far more than those in high school. It is horrible for professors to focus on numerous puzzles waiting for his or her advice after a lecture. Therefore, college students have to learn how to overcome challenges by themselves, which benefits students to cultivate independence.

Moreover, to do research facilitates personal development of professors. Coming up with new concepts or solving difficult academic puzzles that has plagued the world for many years is of positive significance to professors and cultivating students. For instance, my uncle is a mathematics professor in Peking University. He told me that he had written and published an SCI paper, giving rise to his reputation be immensely boosted in the science field. Undoubtedly, he now could offer his students a new perspective about the great research as well as experience accumulated in research.

In a nutshell, after minutely narrating accepted reasons and exemplifications mentioned above, I insist that a professor should be allowed to devote a significant amount of time to his or her individual research. In this case, students are more willing to try their best to think independently; And professors gain a greater sense of accomplishment due to his or her better development.
