Nowadays, certain people claim that all college students should take history classes. Even though in most departments, history is not students’ compulsory course, I still firmly go along with this statement.
To begin with, history courses can offer more wisdom than simple employee skill. In China, it is common for most college students to master various technologies to prepare for a nice job. Several causes lead to this situation, including high expectations from parents, employment pressure from society and cost of living expenses. Admittedly, hardcore courses like math and code can help students raise their competitiveness. Nevertheless, in the long run, history course is more important due to its characteristics. History is like a mirror to reflect people’s advantages and disadvantages faithfully. Students can adopt good points and simultaneously avoid the shortcomings, which is conducive for their entire lives. As a result, students can become more reflective and wise.
Furthermore, history classes can offer students immense joyfulness. When reading history stories, they have access to different lives that they never experienced before. As for me, I am a mediocre one among enormous amounts of college students. However, when I read history stories in the class, I can imagine that I were the hero who was a real figure in ancient times. Maybe he saved many ordinary people’s lives during the war. When conjuring up those images, I always felt excited and glorious. Thus, history classes do not only provide students with knowledge but also bring about great joy from imagination.
In a nutshell, I stoutly agree that the university should urge all students to take history classes. Students could feel joyful at present, and even become wiser in the future.

Nevertheless, overexploited arable lands bring about serious destruction. Certain individuals claim that modern agriculture’s damage to the environment is inevitable. However, I hold the opposite view that we shouldn’t neglect the significance of the environment.
No doubt, agriculture relies on the environment. Destroying the environment would merely bring about short-term interests. The famous example is the rainforest farming on Amazon Plain. On account of locating in the tropic areas, Amazon has plenty of forests’ resources. The strategy adopted by local citizens is cutting down trees and cultivating maize to satisfy the desire of increasing population. At first, it works. Shortly after, this kind of farming disturbs the local environment and climate. The worst drought in decades gives a big lesson to the Amazon dwellers.
Furthermore, advanced agricultural technology can effectively improve the grain yield, but not hurt the environment. As we all know, gene-modified (GM) crops have some unique advantages. For instance, those crops can resist injurious insects’ attacking, which is conducive to the environment because of no pesticide. GM crops also can improve the grain’s size and weight due to changing corresponding enzymes in the plant cell. People are capable to increase the harvest, and protect the environment at the same time.
Admittedly, owing to factors such as religion, politics, war and natural disasters, enormous amounts of world’s refugees need to obtain food regardless of the environments. However, international rescue or regional coordination can settle this situation.
According to all the reasons I pointed out above, no damage to the environment should be the precondition of modern agriculture. Sustainable development can produce more merits.
