    @WritersForMe 老师早上好!请问下老师,我目前背景是大四,化工主修,辅修经济,

Your Chemical Engineering and Economics backgrounds align well with for your intended graduate studies in Industrial and Operations Engineering. On the other hand, pursuing doctoral studies in the field of Chemical Engineering might be a more prudent decision in terms of developing substantive expertise within a specific engineering discipline.

    大三下学期和很多留学机构进行了前期交流才决定申请方向为:美国IEOR工业工程/运筹学,但是编程能力主要是C/C++的基础课程,

Modern IEOR requires a diverse set of capabilities including data analysis, machine learning, as well as optimal system development, which transcends traditional company-centered manufacturing. As such, your programming coverage of C/C# falls short of expectations from both a decent graduate program and a selective employer. Additional programming skills [R/Python for mathematical modeling, data visualization and machine learning, evidenced by CNN] will enhance your chance of success. In terms of system management, MySQL is a must.

Today, the management of systems and operations has expanded to all facets of the supply and customer serving chains, so the inclusion of other digital packages such as Six Sigma (Lean Enterprise/Lean Manufacturing) to both of your CV and the Statement of Purpose will help your application portfolio woo the admissions panel.

If you target at emerging industries, such as digital marketing within the category of IEOR, study IBM SPSS and Pearl and then elaborate your relative skills in your CV and SOP, which will also positively impact the admissions decision-making process.

    科研和实习主要在化工方向,Great!

经济毕设是上海开发区数据stata分析评估,Good, but think if you can incorporate the aforementioned skills into this project and highlight them in both your CV and SOP.

其他就没有数据方面的实习/科研,觉得自己没准备好申请以及后续的在美先就业的方向,这次也只申请了三个学校,只剩下哥大,不知道目前需要做什么?Inform the school of new skills you have acquired and implemented (as noted above)  since you submitted your application.

Your chance for fall 2019 matriculation is slim. Try to get enrolled in a Visiting Student program for fall 2019 (F1 student visa).

Thank you for uploading the message. There are two factors that will preclude you from getting into a decent Business Intelligence or Digital Marketing program.

    • Your limited coursework in programming and mathematics/statistics. Effective digital marketing relies heavily on programming/statistical capabilities. As a result, lack of relevant coursework will reduce your chance for admission.
    • Your GPA remains insufficient for a decent program.

To address these problems, you might consider matriculating in a degree or non-degree BRIDGE program presented by a US university. Completing relevant courses (MATH/STAT/PROGRAMMING/AI) with an impressive GPA at a US university should significantly enhance your chance for potential graduate school acceptance.

BRIDGE programs can be Exchange Program/ Transfer Program/PostBachelor Program/Visiting Student Program., etc, that award credits while you study in the United States as an F1 student.

    Best wishes,

It is too early to give up UU. You may talk to the Department directly and tell them you have been accepted by other programs (list all of them). Ask the Department if you are able to obtain kind of assistantship (TA, RA, PA) to minimize your tuition/living costs. Tell them your credentials/background that make you a good match for TA/RA/PA work.

At the same time, contact professors/project groups for possible funding. Tell them you have been admitted by UU.

Lastly, even you fail to procure funding prior to matriculation later this summer, I still suggest you to attend UU. I DON’T think that you won’t be funded in the 2nd semester or during the 2nd year.

It is too early to think of other programs for now.

    Good luck,

Originally, I wanted to go to UU most, but I may have to give up due to economic reasons. In the case of NTNU or HKUST, what is your suggestion?

As for HKUST, you said that “This doesn’t mean that the program is not a good one “. So what are the possible merits of the program of HKUST? What do you think maybe a good choice after graduation from HK? And in the limited one year of MSc in HK, what preparation do you suggest to do?

    Hi,

Congratulations! All the four programs are great, and I assume you have strong credentials evidenced in your application portfolio.

It is very difficult to select one program while declining the other three, but first of all forget the factor of job placement. Graduating from each of the programs, you should be able to find a job locally.

I would first give up The University of Science and Technology of Hong Kong. This doesn’t mean that the program is not a good one. There are two reasons: 1. You are from China, so it is in your best interest to pursue further studies/research in a non-Asian academic/research environment. 2. Most matriculated students are Chinese, so you will have limited opportunities to do research with the best professors.

Out of the other three programs, which are all exceptional, I recommend Uppsala University. In this prestigious engineering institution, you will have ample opportunity to work with world-acclaimed research groups on frontier research projects, which can translate into potential doctoral studies and job placement in a global context.

    Best wishes,

    Hi,

If your analysis (based on your Chinese message) accurately reflected the three graduate programs, I would recommend you to go to Boston University.

Apparently, completing maximum programming coursework is your priority, then choose BU. Other factors, such as the school’s location and pressure from local peer schools (i.e. BU), remain secondary.

    Best wishes,

    Hi,

    • TUDELFT:  I don’t see a detrimental effect of matriculating in extensive Structure coursework in relation to your proposed career.
    • KTH: You don’t have to choose this program if your potential studies/research focus on Road Engineering. TUDELFT is stronger in this area.
    • NTH: Length of program is not a key issue provided you plan to advance onto doctoral studies.

    I would vote for TUDELFT.

    Best wishes,

    Hi,

In consideration of the global economic trends, neither of the two programs is your optimal choice.

First, you should eliminate your plan to work as a teacher in a middle school in Shenzhen. I have read the report, and I believe (although ‘politically incorrect’) that it is a significant intellectual waste to work there irrespective of the high salary offered.

You should give up the TESOL program, which focuses on ESL teaching methodologies. The relevant skills are not what the global economies (US and China alike) really need.

You may choose the Educational Communication program presented by Columbia if you have no better choice. This program provides the learning opportunities related to quantitative skills, media technologies, as well as media analysis, which are quite useful in this Big Data age.

I still recommend you to choose a more technology-focused program.

    Best,

Hi, please also add the SOP requirements (given by the program), as well as the program’s url, onto the top of your essay. Thanks!

    Hi,

I would like to recommend the ACS program rather than the Electromechanical Engineering program.

The tracks under the Electromechanical Engineering program will glue you to a specific industry, which might restrict your career development in this dynamic world where we are obliged to respond to industrial changes with multidisciplinary capabilities.

The ACS program, however, prepares you appropriately for potential demands across a broad range of industrial sectors, and the tracks under this program are all geared towards the development of innovative technologies.

    Regards.

    Final revision

    August 17, 2019 at 2:46 am

TOPIC: Films can tell us a lot about the country where they were made. What have you learned about a country from watching its movies? Use specific examples and details to support your response.

    Final Revision

Paved with fantastic stories, films usually show us lots a lot of characters the characteristics of the countries where they were made. Watching films is just like we have taking a trip somewhere personally. During my leisure time, I prefer to watch movies. From my perspective, learning about a country by watching the a movie where it was made is one of the most effective ways. At the same time, I can have a better understanding of the/that one country.

We can learn the traditional spirits of one country by the locals’ local ’s dialogues/conversations and their daily lives life. Also, the costumes and buildings reflect the local culture. At the same time, we can have a glimpse of the scenery sceneries in the country.

One of my favorite movies is Spirited Away. It is a Japanese movie which shows the Japanese lifestyles amounts of Japanese features. For instance, the architectures in the movie is are elegant and delicate. The rhythms of the film are in the Japanese style which is soft and very relaxing. In addition, the events in the story happened in a traditional Japanese bathhouse, and the story presents an the authentic custom of Japan. Because the Japanese pay much attention to their cleanness, they go to bathhouses frequently. Therefore, bathhouse plays a critical role in Japanese daily life. All the details present predict a vivid picture of in Japan.

What is moreMoreover/Furthermore, there is a the plot very impressive. The leading actress and her parents went into a restaurant. But its host was not there at that time. The leading actress’s parents were very hungry, so they began to eat without paying for the meal. But the little girl, the leading actress, did not follow her parents. In her mind concept, this behavior was impolite. Then her parents turned into pigs because of the food they ate. This plot shows that Japanese care about politeness very much.

In my opinion, we have limited time and energy, hence visiting every country is impractical for us. Though sometimes we cannot learn about a country precisely, becoming being familiar with a one country by watching a local film is a good way.

    Suggestions for Improvement

    • Shorten/split sentences exceeding 20 words.

    Problems Highlight

Some people claim that one should give up if adverse events occur (such as financial difficulties) occur, whilst others insist that one should strive to change the situation. I strongly agree with the latter opinion since it [ unclear pronoun/use concrete noun ] is likely to lead to success.

Indeed, sometimes the situation is so unpleasant, [ punctuation error ] that it is almost impossible to change anything. So, people do not want to risk their jobs or achievements and instead choose to wait until the situation (is improved). [passive]improves. It [ Unclear pronoun ] may be a viable solution, and there are examples of such [ article error ] luck. For instance, during the financial crisis in Russia, many of [ unnecessary preposition ]businessmen drop [ grammatical error ] out their firms and ceased trying to prosper. Nevertheless, a few years later the crisis ended and [ article error ]profits of firms soared, and those who decided to not change things won. However, this strategy is extremely unpredictable because only [ article error ]few problems out of million may solve itself. So the probability is very low.

Conversely, there are individuals who do not concede, [ punctuation error ]they persist and tackle all problems. Such people do not follow the flow of life and strive to bend the situation because they know: if it works out, they will be happy. For example, I have a friend who lost his business after the financial crisis. His friends, with whom he initiated the firm, gave up and became low-qualified workers as waiters and servants. But my friend decided to borrow money from me to start a new fast-food restaurant which is now known as McDonalds. This practice of course demand traits of temper like perseverance and stubbornness, but it [unclear pronoun  ] totally worth it [ unclear pronoun ].

In conclusion, even though doing nothing sounds simple and may bring one to success, the likelihood of this [ unclear pronoun ] is quite low. Hence, striving to change the situation is the best option.
