    version II:

I believe it is a common misunderstanding that young people cannot control themselves primarily referring to entertainment such as movies and television. The young age gives a lot of people the excuse to judge a group of people, i.e., the young. However, most young people can benefit from the modern industry of movies and television. I am sure that the positive effects can outweigh the counter effects brought from films and television.

Young people have a plan when they are watching movies or television for fun. Most of young people know what they are doing, and properly arrange their time for homework and entertainment. Some people are addicted to movies and television. Yet not all of those are young people. We can find adults and the elder among them, especially the housewives. Therefore, it is not fair to criticize young people as a whole.

Some of the young people wisely transform their favor for movies and television into the passion for learning a foreign language. In my country, many young people watch foreign movies like Hollywood movies to learn English. My study experience can serve as a good example. I study British accent by watching British TV series and learn American accent through watching movies produced by the United States. It is quite common in my country. Foreign movies and TV shows provide lively and economical language classes for second-language learners all over the world. Millions of young people benefit from this.

Admittedly, movies and televisions do have some negative effects with our society and some of our young people in particular. However, it is not the whole story. Most of the modern young people are wise enough to behave with reason. I believe the positive effects of movies and television can outweigh the negative effects in terms of our young people’s behavior.

    Version II:

People often get bored when they keep repeating the same work content. Workers are more likely to feel tired if they do similar tasks all day long. The influence of tiredness can range from the mental level to the physical level. From my perspective, workers are more satisfied when they have various kinds of tasks to do during the workday.

Engaging multiple tasks helps workers to keep a sense of freshness. They will be delighted to spend their day and accomplish various tasks but not have to repeat the same gesture and wait for calling it a day. It can improve workers’ job satisfaction and therefore increase their efficiency of production. Bad news used to get out of a big company that some of its workers committed suicide because of the working pressure from repeating the same tasks.

Shifting tasks can rest the working area of the brain and release workers’ physical tiredness due to repeated muscle movement. By stimulating other nerves of the brain and muscles of the body, the workers can have a break though they are still working. It helps to decrease the working pressure and raise feelings of confidence and happiness. Also, the increased working performance brings more satisfaction to workers because they can take full advantage of their capability and get rewarded for good behaviors. When I was working for a company, the same work content will make me feel my life is blank. I wish I could encounter some interesting people or events during the workdays.

It is crucial to diversify workers’ tasks since it can improve workers’ mental and physical health and job satisfaction. In modern society, we need to concern the working feelings of workers so that we can get a win-win situation between the company and the worker. In conclusion, of course, I agree that workers are more satisfied when they have different tasks instead of repeating the same job content all day long.

I have a question: why did the examiner use “were” in the title “…than they were nowadays”? Is it grammatically correct?

    Version II:

Thanks to the development of advanced information technology, now people can get the latest information and knowledge from the Internet. Students can take courses online so that they do not have to go to school. It is an inevitable trend that teachers are less appreciated and valued by society at the present than they were in the past.

In the past, fewer paths existed for people to accept education and acquire information, and teachers always knew better. Yet nowadays, we have a variety of resources to obtain knowledge from specific fields. We can google our questions on Wikipedia and take courses on the K12 website. Some famous professors recorded their teaching videos and uploaded them to the Internet. If you want to learn from someone, you can search and find the best course in certain areas. It means now we can learn from the best humankind but not stick to one teacher as we used to do. Therefore, the value of the teacher gradually declined. Now we are less likely to appreciate our teachers as a whole. We tend to value the most famous and scholar-like teachers.

In a developing country like mine, students used to see teachers as their fate changers. Due to the increasingly spread-out Internet construction, teachers become a sort of resource of knowledge, but not the only source. Besides, the information in the textbook cannot catch up with the pace of change in this world. In the past, the world is in a more stable situation. Teachers’ words seem to be true at least for half of a generation. However, things become different recently, as no one can be sure that present common sense will not be proved wrong in the future.

Based on the reasons stated above, I agree that teacher are less appreciated and valued by society than they were in the past. After all, time has changed now.

Topic: all university students should be required to take history courses no matter what their field of study is.

    Version II:

It has been a common sense that university students should acquire general knowledge in their early stage of college. In many universities of my country, college students are required to take not only scientific courses from their professional areas but also a certain proportion of humanities courses, including history. From my perspective, I agree that all university students should take compulsory history courses despite their major.

For one thing, I believe history is the past future, and the future is of interest to everyone. Knowing history has great significance for students to step into the future. Without learning history, people seem to be blind in facing the potential danger. History is like an experienced teacher who takes you walking through the fog of reality and leads you to the final truth. Most famous scientists made their ground-breaking achievements by studying previous scholars’ thoughts and results, for instance. Besides, great writers improved their writing skills by admiring the classic masterpieces.

Moreover, by taking history courses, we can learn from the mistakes that our predecessors have made. Accordingly we can avoid the same mistakes in the future. Everyone makes mistakes in each step of their life. However, if we can learn from previous mistakes of others, we can certainly reduce the number of our potential mistakes. In this way, we become outstanding by making fewer mistakes. I think that is one reason why in the handicraft area, there has always been keeping the tradition of face to face teaching between the apprentice and the master. It is because the master has to teach every single mistake in his professional life to his students so that this skill can evolve through time. That is how history helps people avoid repeating mistakes and make new achievements.

In conclusion, I believe college students should take history courses of any kind as part of college education, since it is crucial to their future career and life.

Writing topic: Because people are busy doing so many different things, they do very few things well.

In this ever-changing society, people want to involve in more stuff yet in a shorter period. It seems that everyone has the ability to handle multiple tasks overnight. I cannot tell since when we stop focusing on one topic at a time. From my perspective, a human cannot split their concentration and do various activities to increase their efficiency.

People nowadays seem to become busier than ever, but it only makes their life worse. They complain about ten seconds of the elevator’s operation, five minutes of waiting for the instant noodles, and eight hours of the working time. In daily life, we can see a lot of people being busy with several things at the same time. Young students listen to music while they are doing homework. Workers watch movies or TV shows when they are having lunch or dinner. In this way, they fail to go deeper and figure out the meaning behind the music or the movie and also fail to set up the scientific capacity by doing academic practice or find love and care by making use of the precious lunch and dinner time.

If we judge them by appearance, we might think busy people are quite successful. However, we overlook the most crucial point that successful people enjoy the process of every part of life. They do the right thing and take their time because they love what they do. That is the reason why they can always do things well, as they focus on doing what they love. People with wisdom do not care about the number of things they have to do. They keep things in perfect order and start with the most important task. That is the difference between outstanding people and ordinary people. Ordinary people are busy doing many different things and worry about some of which will not end well. Hesitation and distraction eliminate their possibility to success.

    version III:

People tend to imitate successful examples of others to avoid potential risks. That is the reason why successful people are so rare. Most people cannot create new things or thoughts. They only do what successful people do. But successful people will always try to avoid following the current trend and find their way to make their idea come true. Successful people create own direction.

Doing what people already know never leads to success. Its reason is quite simple. If everybody knows how to do things well, then you cannot succeed by doing so. You cannot invent a creation if it is not new. People work so hard to pursue their accomplishments and will not leave any chance to others if they know how to make it through. Nobel price will only award the first discoverer. In this case, you must be the first one to figure it out. In the business world, if something is profitable, you, at least, must not be the last one to know; otherwise, you will not get any profit.

The biggest winner must run the risk of loss and do something new, since high risk comes with high return. Everyone familiar with the stock market will understand this. Huge adventure can scare many potential competitors. For instance, most beautiful women always do not have as many competitors as people’s horse sense. Their beauty seems to scare off many young men who think he may lose in the competition of chasing.

We all know new things can bring unexpected rewards sometimes. However, not everyone has the chance to try new things and afford its cost. Sometimes we need to keep our minds open to discover new opportunities and be brave enough to take risks.

    version II:

Relation to others is a kind of software ability of people, while knowledge is more like a hardware ability of people. As for students making no sure of his/her future career, the best way to success is studying hard in school. It will not be late to connect to society after graduation. In an interview, the interviewer will not give you an offer by judging the number of your friends. From my perspective, the software ability largely depends on hardware ability.

Everyone has his/her circle. If you want to make friends with competent people, you must be one of them. If you work hard in the school library every day, you are more likely to make friends with hard-working students like you. A student staying in the dormitory playing computer games all the time, like males always do, will not meet a girlfriend in college. A girl will never show up in his dormitory.

Also, no matter how well you relate to your friends, you will feel hard to connect to your friends once your position goes much beyond your circle. It is because you are speaking different languages now. Great minds think alike. Your relation scope will keep changing since you keep learning new things in school and a future job. When you keep outrunning your old self, you will find you have exceeded most friends of your circle!

In conclusion, students should focus more on the study in school. That is what school education is meant to be, and that is where successful career is waiting. As an old Chinese saying goes, no need to worry about no friends ahead of you, since you have been known by people all over the world.

    Version III:

People travel in different ways. I have a few competent friends who are loyal fans of the lonely adventure. They often climb mountains alone or ride their bicycles for several days without companions. Loneliness never becomes their problem, and their lack of local knowledge can also get solved by adequate preparation and search engines. They may be right to think that travel alone is the top option. However, from my perspective, the best way to travel is in a team led by a tour guide.

The decisive factor is that in many cases the personal ability of mine cannot substitute the role of a guider or teammate. Also, most of us do not possess that kind of incentive to face unknown adventures alone. An official report shows that most of the accidents occurring during trips happened to single tourists and inexperienced teams. When troubles come, teammates can help us out of the crisis, and a good guider can protect us from potential danger.

People may argue that what if their purpose of travel is to relax and to obtain some exotic experience. It seems that a proper holiday and google are all they need. Nonetheless, if they expect to get sunburn and some fresh air, a tour guide also suits them well. A guider has expertise in local restaurants, transportation, and accommodation. For example, my friend Mary plans to visit France this summer. The local tour guide can give her appropriate advice about the subway ticket, the local specialties, and the safest district to accommodate. Her teammates can share her expenses and make some brilliant adjustments to her tour plan.

Joining a team and having a tour guide can benefit us under many different conditions. Therefore, I agree with the statement that the best way to travel is in a group led by a tour guide.

    Version II:

People may think that since teachers teach their students every school day, they must bring more influence to their students than any others do. However, I believe students get influenced by their friends in a profounder way than by their teachers.

We see teachers as influencers, but the truth is they often teach in a manner strictly according to their teaching plan. The school expects teachers to teach scientific knowledge in restricted class time. It will be no much time left to discuss something about students’ evaluative viewpoints. At the same time, students’ values can easily get influenced by their friends when they get along with each other.

The other thing is what teachers usually do is giving speeches to their students in the class. However, we all agree that behavior speaks louder than words. Friends share experiences and growing pains of their life, which can influence them in a broader but more impressive way than teachers do.

Moreover, teachers can merely accompany students during the class and in most cases, finish till the end of the semester. But friends can stay with each other for many years or even a lifetime. Most of us have several life-long friends in our life, and this connection is stronger than any possible influence from teachers. A friend of mine, Maria, was a good example. We met in primary school. We still were classmates when we went to middle school. Many teachers of primary school had become more and more blur in our memory. Maria and I stayed together almost every day until high school separated us. We influenced each other with friendship and love in an extent more than we could know.

However, sometimes, it is hard to distinguish an influential teacher and a true friend. Sometimes it can be both. I think teachers can bring more influence to their students by becoming their friends.
